Recently, the General Dental Council have announced that patients who want to visit a dental hygienist can do so without the need to have a dental examination from a dentist. What this means is that if you feel like you need to have your teeth cleaned, then you can go to the hygienist without the need for your dentist to actually refer you.

Also, if your dentist doesn’t have a hygienist and you think that you need to see one, then you can visit any hygienist at any dental practice that operates on that basis.
